What are some underrated pieces of classical music that you think should be more popular?

"Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn" by Johannes Brahms - Brahms took a simple tune and turned it into a beautiful, complex piece of music. It showcases his incredible musical craftsmanship and sense of humour.

"Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" by Ralph Vaughan Williams is a meditation on a simple 16th-century melody, both serene and powerful. It's an excellent example of how timeless music can be.

"A Village Romeo and Juliet" by Frederick Delius - This piece tells the story of a young couple in love, set to lush and romantic music. It's not as well-known as other Romantic-era pieces, but it deserves to be.

"The Planets" by Gustav Holst - This suite of pieces, each inspired by a different planet, is one of the most imaginative pieces of music ever written. From the martial rhythm of Mars to the haunting beauty of Neptune, Holst takes listeners on a tour of the solar system.

"La Mer" by Claude Debussy - This piece of music, inspired by the sea, is one of the defining works of the Impressionist movement. Its shimmering harmonies and delicate textures create a sense of tranquillity and mystery.

These are just a few examples, but many other underrated classical pieces are worth exploring. In my opinion, these works are underrated because they don't receive as much exposure as more popular classical pieces, but they are no less deserving of recognition and appreciation.
